Dr. Serena has been the lead or principal investigator in over fifty clinical trials, including testing blood platelets, topical and parenteral antibiotics and bi-layered cell therapy, the Human Genome Sciences sponsored trial of new growth factors and the most recent Bioengineered skin trial. As a result of the overwhelming demand for his services as a research scientist, he founded the NewBridge Medical Research Corporation. He is recognized internationally as an expert in the field of wound healing, having published more than seventy papers and given over one-hundred presentations around the world. In 2003, he was elected to the Board of Directors of The Wound Healing Society. Dr. Serena is directly responsible for writing the Standards of Care used across the United States for the treatment and prevention of chronic wounds.

Dr. Lam Le | Wound Care

Dr. Lam Le, MD, CWS, FACCWS, FAPWCA
Medical Director St Johns Wound Center. Tulsa, OK

Dr. Le completed medical school and residency at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. She is an American Academy of Wound Management certified wound specialist. She completed her hyperbaric medicine and wound care training with Penn North Centers for Advanced Wound Care: Serena Group.

Dr. Le is a fellow of the College of Certified Wound Specialists and a Diplomat of the American Academy of Wound Management. She is a member of the Wound Healing Society, American Professional Wound Care Association, Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, American College of Hyperbaric Medicine, and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society.

Dr. Dan DiMarco | Serea Group

Dr. Dan DiMarco, DO

Dr. Dan DiMarco joined the SerenaGroup in March, 2010, at the St Vincent Health Center in Erie, PA. He is board certified in Family Practice with interest in chronic wound care. He recently completed HBO Certification. His addition to our Erie staff will provide staff support for our expanding consultation work.

Dr DiMarco received his DO from The College of Osteopathic Medicine at Kirksville in 1990 and completed his residency at the Metro Health Center in Erie PA.

Sharon McConnell | Chronic Wound Professional

Sharon McConnell, MS, CCRC

Sharon J. McConnell, MS, CCRC became the Director of NewBridge Medical Research in May 2008. She has 12 years of previous clinical research experience in cancer and orthopaedic research. She graduated from Gannon University in Erie, PA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Science (Biology/Physician Assistant Program) and Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration. She is also a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator through the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP). Sharon has coordinated multiple clinical trials, served on many task forces looking at outcomes in medical treatment, and is co-author on several publications in orthopaedic research.

LaTroy Navorolli | Wound Care

LaTroy Navorolli, CRNP

LaTroy Navorolli, CRNP was first nurse practitioner to join the Penn North Team. She has been a driving force in the improving the care of patients in skilled nursing facilities. Moreover, she has taken lead in the development of the wound care centers in Kane Pennsylvania and Westfield New York. She also sees patients in our Warren and Elk Regional wound centers. She is certified in Hyperbaric medicine and wound care. LaTroy received her Bachelors in nursing in 1989. She received her masters and CRNP degree from Edinboro in 1998. Before joining Penn North in 2005 she worked in primary care, a skilled nursing home setting and for a gastric bypass surgical team. LaTroy lives in Warren Pennsylvania with her husband and triplets.

Jacqueline Sabo, RN

Jackie earned her nursing degree at the Community College of Philadelphia in 1998. She was awarded the United States Department of Health and Human Services Nursing Scholarship for Health Professions in 1997. She was also awarded in 1998 the William E and Theresa M. Rubert Memorial Trust Scholarship at Hahnemann University. While nursing at Saint Agnes Medical Center, she became the head nurse of the burn and general surgery units. She is also a member of the ACHM and BNA.

Heather Connell, Research Coordinator

Heather is a 2004 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and with a minor in Chemistry. She interned at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium as a Zoo Keeper and worked at The Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania as an Animal Behaviorist. Her background includes 3 years experience in Quality Control.
